Outdoor Rock Climbing & Bouldering

Outdoor climbing can be dangerous but also an exciting experience if done properly with the proper planning and equipment. First you will want to research the area you want to climb.  Get into shape by doing some hiking, stair climbing or running. Check out the weather forecast for the dates you have chosen and never climb alone.  Because the days in Nevada get very hot, on the day of your outdoor climb you will need to get up early for your climb and bring a lot of drinking water along the climb to stay hydrated.

Lead climbing is a technique climbers use to ascend a route and either attach their rope along the way to pre-drilled bolts or using various pieces of equipment to attach the rope and caribeaners to the rock, preferably without damaging it. Top-roping is the most common style of climbing used when a situation is not safe and at indoor climbing walls. Climbing on large boulders is called bouldering.

Some rock climbing gear that can come in handy while outdoor climbing would be a harness, which is designed to allow the person to hang climb safely while attached to a rope.  You will also need a good pair of climbing shoes. You will also need rope and a variety of other equipment for outdoor climbing.

Nevada Climbing can be found from the Las Vegas Valley to the Valley of Fire and many more areas around Nevada.  See below for a list of several outdoor climbing locations in Nevada.
